Family praying for miracle after 7-year-old girl critically injured in crash

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. – A Coweta County mother is hanging on to hope that her 7-year-old daughter will wake up after a head on collision.

The little girl broke her neck in the crash in Newnan.

Aubree has been on life support for the 10 days since the head on collision that caused brain damage.

She said she was heading home in with Aubree in a backseat booster seat on Dec. 9 when the sun blinded her eyes while she made a turn.

“I never even saw them coming,” Hendrix said.

An oncoming minivan hit her at the intersection of Smokey Road and Old Corinth Road.

“You never would put your child in danger, or in a situation like that and to have it happen it’s a crazy nightmare you just can’t come out of,” Hendrix said.

Hendrix said she doesn’t have a timetable on when Aubree could wake up but doctors have said nothing about a recovery would be easy.

“The doctors are 99 percent sure she’s going to be quadriplegic, that she’s going to need care for the rest of her life,” Hendrix said.

Aubree’s family is preparing to possibly spend the holidays at the hospital unless they get the only gift they could ask for.

“Maybe it will be a Christmas miracle and we will have her wake up,” Hendrix said.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account for the little girl.

Suspected gang member charged in deadly shooting at ‘pajama party’

A gang member is facing murder and other charges after a member of another gang was shot to death at a residential party in Newnan.

Coweta County deputies arrested Michael Javon Williams, 27, after the incident early Saturday, according to records. Williams is being held without bond at the Coweta County jail.

When deputies arrived at the 100 block of Covey Trail about 3:30 a.m., they found Tomas Maurice Gooden, 21, unresponsive in the garage.

“It appeared Tomas was shot by an unknown firearm in his head,” according to the report.

The person who reported the incident, Mundel Whitaker, told investigators he and friends were having a “pajama party” at the residence. The party “got out of hand” when a lot of people arrived he and others didn’t recognize, Whitaker told deputies.

Williams and Gooden were gang members, sheriff’s Col. Jimmy Yarbrough said, and there was gambling going on at the gathering.

Whitaker said he and others were in the living room and preparing for bed when he heard someone yell, “He’s got a gun,” and then heard a gunshot.

He then called his mother after dialing 911 because he was scared, deputies said.

His mother told an investigator the identity of the shooter, based on what she was told by someone at the scene, according to the report. She also said a black BMW that was parked in the front yard of the residence belonged to the shooter.

Authorities found and arrested Williams, who also is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a felon and violating probation, according to jail records.
